HIGHLIGHTS | Burnley 0-0 Arsenal | Premier League | Feb 2, 2020

The first goalless draw of the Mikel Arteta era, but this was a tale of big chances squandered at both ends.

Burnley had more than their fair share of those, but it probably would have been a comfortable afternoon for us if our two most experienced strikers hadn’t uncharacteristically squandered early opportunities.

Alex Lacazette nodded wide when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cross found him completely free six yards out. And the captain himself got it wrong when put through by David Luiz’s ball over the top.

Those misses sparked Burnley into life and they came right back into the match, Jay Rodriguez forcing a fine save from Bernd Leno.

Dwight McNeil and Jeff Hendrick went close too, and we looked stretched at times as the home side found time and space to test us with crosses from both flanks.

Lacazette was denied by last-ditch defending from James Tarkowski, Nick Pope came out quickly to stop Aubameyang, and our skipper went even closer in the second half with a firm header that flew just wide.

But Burnley would have been hard done by had they lost.

James Tarkowski and Rodriguez could – and perhaps should – have scored with headers, and Rodriguez somehow failed to score from close range when his volley crashed onto the bar and bounced down onto the line.
